d'ardant desir, qu'einc si ardant ne fu.
qu'en mon cuer a espris et soustenu
Amours, et s'a la joie retenu
d'espoir qui doit attemprer telle ardure.
Las! se le feu qui ensement l'art dure.
mes cuers sera tous bruis et esteins.
qui de ce feu est ja nercis et teins.
pour ce qu'il est fins, loyaus et certeins;
si que j'espoir que deviez y ert, eins
que bonne Amour de merci l'asseure
par la vertu d'esperance seure.
Car pour li seul, qui endure mal meint.
Pitie deffaut, ou toute biaute meint;
Durtes y regne et Dangiers remenint.
Desdeins y vit et Loyautez s'i feint
et Amours n'a de li ne de moy cure.
Joie le het, ma dame li est dure.
et, pour croistre mes dolereus meschies.
met dedens moy Amours, qui est mes chies.
un desespoir qui si mal entechies
est que tous biens a de moy esrachies.
et en tous cas mon corps si desnature
qu'il me convient morir malgre Nature.


Motetus:

Helas! ou sera pris confors
pour moy qui ne vail nes que mors?
Quant riens garentir ne me puet
fors ma dame chiere qui wet
qu'en desespoir muire, sans plus.
pour ce que je l'aim plus que nulz.
et Souvenir pour enasprir
l'ardour de mon triste desir
me moustre ades sa grant bonte
et sa fine vraie biaute
qui doublement me fait ardoir.
Einsi sans cuer et sans espoir.
ne puis pas vivre longuement.
n'en feu cuers humeins nullement
ne puet longue duree avoir.

Translation

Triplum:

Help! Help! The fire, the fire, the fire
of burning desire, which has never been so hot
as Love has kindled and sustained in my heart.
and it has preserved the joy of hope.
which should temper such burning desire.
Alas! If the fire which thus burns it should survive.
my heart will be entirely consumed.
which from this fire is now blackened and stained.
because it is genuine, loyal and true.
so much so that I expect that it will die
before good Love assures it of mercy
by the virtue of certain hope.
for because of her alone, who endures much misfortune.
Pity, to which all beauty leads, is lacking.
Suffering reigns and domination lies in wait.
Disdain lives there and Loyalty plays the hypocrite.
and Love cares for neither her nor me.
Joy hates it, my lady is harsh.
and, in order to increase my miserable misfortune.
Love, who is my chief.
puts me in a despair which is so painful
that all good is torn away
and, in any case, my body is so distorted
that I must die in spite of Nature.


Motetus

Alas! Where will comfort be found
for me, who is worth not even death.
when nothing can protect me
except my beloved lady.
who hears that in despair I simply cry.
because I love her more than any other.
And Memory, in order to inflame
the ardour of my unhappy desire.
shows me always the great goodness
and her perfect true beauty.
which make me doubly burn.
Thus, without a heart and without hope.
I cannot live for long:
nor wsa heart at all humna.
nor can it have long duration.
