Text

vo pur cercando i deletosi fiori.

anzi m'ingombra l'altrui penser vile.

Translation

I am the one who, walking in the woods.
always looks for delectable flowers
to make myself an unusually scented garland.

I never seek the shadows of other people's trees;
on the contrary, I am disturbed by the vile thoughts
of those who clothe their baseness in other people's garb.

Thus one acquires the cherished frond
of the green tree which has no fear of lightning.

A crow who puts on peacock feathers
must pluck them off himself in shame among the parrots.
