Text

fiammegiar una stella al modo un sole;

Non val sospir, non fT, non dir parole.
en grant doye est mon cuer:
je pourport esperans in douls amour.

Translation

I must suffer and can no longer endure
the great power of love.
I languish deeply, joy and great sorrow in perfect balance.

My mortal eyes saw a star, blazing like a sun.
surrounded with bright rays.

My eyesight could not put up a shield: a ray
passed through to the heart which therefore is in pain.

There is no point in sighing, in pledging faith, in saying words.
My heart is in great sorrow.
I carry within me hope in sweet love.

[I must suffer and can no longer endure
the great power of love.
I languish deeply, joy and great sorrow in perfect balance.]
