Text

Deh, fa' per quella speme e fede ch'io
ho posta in tuo biltade.
non sie con crudeltade
rimunerato 'l mie caldo disio.

Temo che 'l fedel core
per tropp'acces'amore
non chiuda gli ochi a la suo vita, 'n prima
che quel dolze splendore.
d'ogni bellezza onore.
faccia de' mie sospir picciola stima;
nT ch'io da l'alta e gloriosa cima
di vostra grazia pieghi.
s8 che 'l bel viso nieghi
dar confort'e piacere al voler mio.

Translation

Because of the hope and trust
I have placed in your beauty.
please, let my ardent desire
not be rewarded with cruelty.

I fear that my faithful heart
through much too fervent love
may close its eyes to life, before
that sweet splendor.
pride of all beauty.
should hold my sighs in some small account;
or that I should fall
from the high and glorious summit of your grace.
so that your beautiful face should refuse
to give my desire comfort and pleasure.
