Deh, passa, temp'amaro
che la mie vita sprona!
L'anima s'abandona
s'a mia fortuna non porgo riparo.

L'animo piange e tutto si divora.
perchT gia fu di graziosa donna:
hammi lasciato, ond'io la chiamo ognora:
ferma mi sta nel cor pi· che colonna.
Ma se troppo sogiorna
la suo cruda partita.
fara mancar mie vita
tanto mi fa de' suo begli ochi caro.

Translation

Please run on, bitter time
spurring my life!
My soul will give up
if I do not restore my fortunes.

My soul consumes itself and weeps.
because it used to belong to a lovely woman:
she has left me, so that I am always calling out her name:
she stays in my heart as steadfast as a pillar.
But if her cruel absence
lasts too long.
it will undo my life.
so much I miss her beautiful eyes.
